Why Dueling With Clients is a Bad Idea

  • Published: June 5, 2015

Attorney client relations can at times be delicate matters. In the high intensity environment of litigation, facilitating good communication is key. Even when disputes arise, it is important to remember that at the end of the day we’re all on the same side. This is why challenging your client to a duel is not an effective way of handling an argument.

On Wednesday an amended complaint was filed against a lawyer in Illinois for actions that included the following proclamation by the attorney “I challenge you to a duel, you pick the time, place and manner.”

At the end of such a statement all we are really missing is a set of shiny armor, an interesting accent, and a gauntlet upon the floor to transport ourselves from the world of civilized law to an Elizabethan era arena. One can almost hear the queen cry out “The loser dies, the winner shall be sued for Legal Malpractice or Gross Negligence.”

At Abronson Law Offices, we counsel calm and courtesy in such situations. We can safely claim that never, so far, has blood been spilt between attorney and client. [Click Here]
